Sorry about the sound in this one. Used a new mic and didn't realize it muted things with ambient sound (like the wind).

This is an intro/beginner's review to the Savage Edge/Axis rifle in 243 Winchester.

Here are some high points on the rifle:

Durable matte finish/free floated barrel
Trigger breaks clean at 5 lbs, solid wall, no play
LIghtweight, low recoil
Smooth and solid bolt throw, lock-in
VERY practical and well placed safety
Scope mounts located same as Savage 110
SUB MOA accuracy!

A few lower points:

Though solid and well built, forend feels cheap
Trigger is not ACCUtrigger
Muzzle jump because of weight
Light play in extracted bolt

All in all, keeping in mind this is a BARGAIN rifle and not a fine collector or piece of art, it's an outstanding value for a great shooter. Any rifle that shoots under 1" groups consistently is worth 2 or 3 times what you'll pay in this setup. Total cost of this setup was:

Savage Edge - $280
Nikon ProStaff - $134
Weaver Rails - $6
Leupold Rings - $0 (had on hand)

Total cost = $420 completely set up

  • great review very informative.....would you recommend a 243 or 30-60? im in the market for a fun rifle that i can take target shooting and do a little hunting with if i feel the need. what rifle would you suggest?

  • @Predsfan89 I say you can't go wrong with either, BUT it depends on what you want to hunt. 30-06 is gonna be a bit better for animals on the larger side of things, but the .243 will serve you better on coyote sized game.

  • @hausofguns yeah i dont reckon ill be hunting that big of game. deer probably but thats it. mainly just want something fun to shoot. whats the comparison with the ammo prices?

  • @Predsfan89 .243 is going to give you great variety and be substantially cheaper than the 30-06.

  • You have the rifle locked down to a bench that wobbles like a $25 computer desk lol.

  • @needparalegal Haha, it may appear to be that way, but I assure you this bench when used properly locks down tight. Now whether or not I always remember to use the lock on it is another story, haha.

  • awesome review man. I'm getting the savage axis in 30-06 when i get my tax return and im pretty excited about it lol. cant wait to see how my 100yd groupings are when i get it!

  • @hausofguns thanks for the help sir. you are a gentleman and a scholar.

  • Purchased a 25-06 and a 22-250 for my son and myself about a month ago. These rifles are very accurate! Factory loads shot 1" groups in the 25-06 and a little less in the 22-250. Started reloading and shrunk the groups, so far, to .6" in the 25-06 and .3" in the 22-250. Havent finished working a load for the 25, I think it will shoot better. I have not had any issues with these rifles. The triggers needed a little work but other than that you cant ask for a better rifle for hunting/shooting.

  • @hausofguns Thanks, my wife seen where i had commented and watched your vid, guess what my early christmas gift was today? lol! thanks for the vid, it was the most helpful of all i watched! keep up the good work!

  • @allisdad08 You'll probably want a different load for each but it would be a perfect gun to use for multi-purpose hunting.
