  • Most experts agree that vikings didn't run into screaming and swinging wildly all that would do is get you tired and killed.

Evidence points that they used finesse in their fighting techniques and that their battles played out more strategically. It's most likely that they circled, moved in made a few attacks broke off then moved back in and made another attempt tats what this video is depicting.

But if your prefer the stereotype rather than a skilled fighter who rivalled a samuai your loss

  • Scandinavia were the Countrys who had Vikings, They later went our around the World, The Swedes in the East and middleeast, The Danes in England and The Norwegians around the English islands.

  • @tullyDT And chainmail, it stops slashes

  • @tullyDT What do you mean rivaled the samurai? The only thing a viking has that threatens a late period samurai is his shield.

  • @swanyAJ I don't see how his statement contradicts the video, jackass.

  • @tullyDT they fought in shields walls with their shields interlocked and supporting the man next to him unless it was in single combat which is quite clearly the case here. i think re-enactors probably know a bit more about danish/norse/saxon combat than some youtube expert such as yourself

  • @andreasnorup From what I've heard, the first line formed a shield wall. (That's why the shields were so big.) And the guys behind them had spears and axed and just killed away. Quite simple, and effective.

  • @tullyDT The majority of skeletons of Vikings who died in battle had damage to the head or legs. This showed they would feint some of their attacks. They would also use their shields in combination with attacks to keep their opponents' shields out of the way.

  • @tullyDT As a matter of fact, there is actually strong evidence that vikings, when advancing in force, used the shield wall (likely learned from watching or fighting against Romans centuries earlier).

  • Guy with the helmet won at 0:09. Without legs you can't stand :P

  • @skjaldulfr What we know about berserkers is speculative at best all there is to go on is accounts given in sagas which should be regarded with caution. My own theory is that some vikings may have eaten narcotic mushrooms which would have inhibited their senses. There is more evidence to suggest tactical fighting employed by vikings than there is for blind berserker charges as the staple of viking warfare. The berserker seems to be more of an exception to the rule rather than common place.

  • @tullyDT maybe the common norseman. But you can't forget berserkers. And before you discount them as a myth do some research.
