  • Sorry but Robert Ballard looked at the ship in 1986, he was the first to take a Sub down to the wreck..

  • The reason they don't discuss Robert Ballard is because he doesn't like the recovery of artefacts from the wreck, which is what the crew of the Nautile was up to. The Titantic Artefact Exhibition folks helped fund this doc, so they don't want anyone questioning their looting for fun and profit like Ballard would.

  • And Jack Grimm put to sea on his search with practically no historical research beforehand. His only working hypothesis was that the Titanic sank east of the ice field the Californian had stopped in. Dr. Ballard was much better prepared in this department.

  • @starmanskye Funded and DIRECTED by Robert Ballard, no less! These dirtbags have no class, indeed!

  • Like others, I couldn't help but laugh at their politically-tainted avoidance of mentioning Dr. Robert Ballard here! That's like talking about the first Moon landing without mentioning Neil Armstrong. But they talk plenty about Jack Grimm, who tried to bring a monkey along on his expedition and have him point at the Titanic's location upon discovery. Grimm's scientists put an end to that--they said either the monkey goes or we do. Grimm said "fire the scientists" but cooler heads prevailed.

  • So apparently Ralph White was the image tech on the 'unnamed' exploration team that this doc cleverly avoids mentioning was funded by Robert Ballard. That's how the doc underwriters got around not crediting Ballard as the first to discover the Titanic's resting place -- pretty lowball lack of class and muddy ethics there.

  • @PianoKeysPlease He found it in 1985 then came back again in 1986!!

  • this may sound mean, and I hope no one takes offense to this, but i think those who jumped from the ship, and died breaking their neck, or were crushed by the funnels, were the lucky ones(among the dead, anyway) It was quick for them, no suffering.

  • So where are the Nadir and Nautile now? For the last 15 - 20 years the Keldysh has been the only ship that makes these trips.

  • it must be scary to be in the submarine for 2 hours descending on the ocean floor, who can stay that long, my god
