The Battle for Your Mountains explores the story of a small mountain town in conflict with the mining industry. US Energy Corp owns the rights to open a massive molybdenum mine on Red Lady at the headwaters of the Colorado River in Crested Butte. Such a mine could destroy the local environment and economy and potentially carry its impacts downstream to hundreds of other communities. The film reminds us that we are all downstream and actions taken in the mountains of Colorado directly affect people living in San Diego, or anywhere west of the Continental Divide.
This mine would require toxic tailings ponds in a pristine roadless area, is not at all "existing" by any stretch of the imagination, is at the head of the town's water source, as well as the headwaters to the Colorado River, would require immense amounts of water pumped from sensitive aquatic areas, would likely produce acid mine drainage, would only be operational for 11 years, leaving an environmental mess in its wake, and has been overwhelmingly opposed by the community since its inception.

This is movie presents one point of view, and leaves out alot of facts. Mount Emmons (the mines actual name) has been there for decades. Its not a proposed mine, its an excisting mine just put in to mothballs. Its also an all underground mine (no open pits), so the only sign a operational mine was there would be the support buildings (that are allready there from when the mine was operational). The mine if fully operational would be the largest employer in the area, something to think about.
