This is a scene from the 2004 film Primer. In this scene, Aaron attempts to explain everything to Abe right after he(Abe) has used the fail-safe.

I love the cinematography and music in this scene. A subtle thing to note for Primer is that the film itself matches the progression of the plot. Things start of with a simple machine so the camera does simple things and so does the piano. It turns surreal and the cuts and editing become frenetic and the music bends and twists with the timeline. Kudos, Mr. Carruth. Now go finish "A Topiary"

  • SPOILERS? It's nearly impossible to give spoilers for this movie. To complicated to spoil it.

  • It has to be AT LEAST REMOTELY related to the detrimental effects of the machine use. At this point, they've been using the hell out of the thing, and we've all seen what's happened to their handwriting, Aaron's ear, Granger, etc.

  • So what Arron 3 should have done was make 3 tapes recording the days conversations (one for himself and two for Arron 2), gone through the box, confronted Arron 2, given him 2 recordings, told Arron 2 to go make a copy of the recording and then go away to the hotel room and then go through the box while Arron 3 used the recording to play out the week, when Arron 2 came out the box he'd confront himself, given him two of the recordings and then played out the week like Arron 3, making a loop?

  • semi-spoiler ish?

Once you understand the story completely then everything makes sense as you watch it knowing what's happening in the scenes. when watching it for the first few times it's hard since the plot only gives you scenes that are very late in the development of the story of the duplicates, albeit early in the movie and you have only the merest clues. This scene is one of the most important it is the big reveal.

  • dude no matter how hard u try you cant spoil this its to hard

  • @kentweirdo

What else could it be, Kent? An EAR INFECTION!? Haha, you kidder, you :)

  • @BlackNoir since abe was inside the box for a really long time he had a bunch of side effects (like accelerated ageing). though abe isn't grey haired, his body couldn't handle alot of what happened. this is also why they bleed from their ears, and why they can't write anymore.

  • the bleeding ears have to with the ear pieces. Aaron said something about it in the movie, as the "narrator" I think in this scene Abe realized what was going on, and freaked out a little bit.

  • no he passed out cause he was tired from lack of sleep

  • Abe passed out from what Aaron knew about what he was going to say?

Or just the prolonged exposure to the machine's side effects? (Like the crappy handwriting?)
