Tribu UP keeps crown

THE University of the Philippines Pep Squad presented a routine closest to its heart and went on to clinch the title in the 2008 Samsung-University Athletic Association of the Philippines Cheerdance competition.

An ethnic, tribal motif, which embodied the theme "Tribu UP," won the day for the Maroons, who earned the P195,000 first prize on the way to their second straight cheer-dancing crown.

"Key 'yung pagkakaroon namin ng teamwork. From the start, we have been having problems from the pressure na nararamdaman namin from being champions last year and our centennial celebration. We focused on our purpose in this competition. We ultimately enjoyed every step, every dance, every stunt. Talagang sinigaw namin, fun fun fun", said team skipper Angelica Sison.

The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe finished second and took home the P120,000 check, followed by Far Eastern University at third, good for the P80,000 prize.

The Maroons, who showed up with the girls sporting pixie haircuts and the boys in mohawks, did routines telling a story about a tribe preparing for battle. They capped their routine with an "Oblation formation," and the raising of the sign "Tribu, Sugod!"

hmmm...i think most awaited ang cheerdance competition ng UAAP kc mga kilalang universities ang naglalaban-laban...starting from UP, Ateneo, La Salle, UST etc, etc, tingin ko rin dahil s matinding support din from the students, faculty, admin. and alumnis ng mga respective schools nla kya ganyan krami ang nanonood...;)
