Deconversion is becoming an atheist after having been raised member off a religion. You see, no one starts out religious. They are indoctrinated (you would say 'educated') in a religion, typiclly by parents.
Other Atheists are raised in no religion. We have it easier thn deconverters, who have to deal with lingering guilt and fear.

@josh0269497 We don't think about either one. Fictitious claims are usually discounted equally, because there is no way to prove the absence of a negative. Ghosts, unicorns, leprechauns, elves, god, the devil? What do they all have in common? No tangible proof of any kind. To an Atheist, you have no right to claim knowledge of something you cannot prove.

I can let a lot of things slide, and I almost never hold a grudge, but I don't think I'll ever totally forgive religion for making me, as a CHILD, believe I was going to suffer in hell for eternity if I wasnt absolutely perfect, if I didnt pray long enough, or repent quite sincerely enough. That fear, that threat of unending torture, who the fuck would do that to a child?
Finally losing my faith was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

@Kieranfoy Yeah thats how it was for me. I got hit by the teacher every week because I was facepalming and frowning through every minute of the Catholic education I had. I knew from the age of 5 it was all crap and had nothing to do with reality. I think they had me brainwashed eventually but that only lasted a few months and then it no longer occurred to me to even look at a chapel or a bible again.

A great, great vid. I'm an atheist and was raised catholic. There were problems there, but it was not a living hell like I hear about from so many others. But still this vid speaks to me. It is possible to be a good person and have a normal, happy life even if afflicted with the catholic curse. The title is great, and I have subbed. But this story needs to be told millions more times. Thanks.
