nice find. It's extremely rare to find these elevators now a days.

@jimster586 The book elevator at URMC is winding drum bottom drive. and this one is overhead counterweighted. I also think the one and only SPEEDY in MA is winding drum as well.. This elevator sounds alot like the one at the guggenheimer..

Notice how there are only 3 cables. Regulations were much different back then compared to today. Sadly, people would wedge themselves between the shaft door and car door, the elevator would take-off and slice them in half, instantly killing them. :(

@suzzex This elevator has an interlock. I don't think that would happen in this lift.

@dieselducy It does. People literally close the doors, lock them and send the elevator to another floor as a joke, but it results in death. A technician informed me of those horrible stories.

@suzzex how does this work? i dont quite get it.. of course im tired right now :) do they defeat the interlock??

@dieselducy Basically, on an older elevator like this, the outer door would close, they would stand straight, let the gate/cab door close, letting both interlocks click, and then... bad stuff. I can further explain it on a Skype call later if you want.
