MicroPlace is a way for you to make small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. You can also earn a modest return on your investment while you help others leave extreme poverty.

  • That's a valid concern. It should also be noted that the amount of capital available for microfinance in the world doesn't even come close to the amount necessary to fill all the microfinance needs. This type of lending has the potential to greatly increase the amount of funding. I think that given the choice of having no microfinance, or having it with 3% tacked on for the investor, most people would rather have the option to take the loan.

    I don't think a 3% return makes one rich.

  • I don't think the true intent of micro finance is for banks and entrepreneurs to get rich. I know if I were to invest it wouldn't be with a goal of getting rich. However if I lost everything I were to invest I'd feel better about it then when I lost 5k to WaMu.

  • It should also be mentioned that Micro Finance isn't working very well. It's extremely expensive to manage small loans to individuals who normally don't have phones or addresses. The default rate isn't high, but the cost of keeping track of the loans is so high that normal banks and entreprenuers don't pursue micro markets.

  • Great Video, great flow from one stage to the next with clever animation. I think you should change "one of every two in our world" to "Half of those in our world" or One in two". "One in every two" sounds awkward because every does not apply to two. And normally the "four in five" or the "one in eight" is used more comfortably with larger denominators.

  • I really like the idea behind microfinance. This seems like a great way to help people without it being charity. Plus at a 1-3% interest rate it's totally repayable. Plus most banks aren't even paying that much in interest these days for a savings account.

  • This is wonderful. I love the final message. well done! What is the name of the piano piece you used?
