  • The eggshells are a good source of calcium for this bird.

    Whenever I make a batch of suet, I use chicken eggshells I have collected over time. After baking them in the oven (a smelly process) to kill bacteria and such, I grind them into powder and add them to the suet. I always make my own suet, as the muck you get in the stores is expensive and filled with junk seed and other fillers.
