Vincent Willem van Gogh (30 March 1853 29 July 1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose work had a far-reaching influence on 20th century art for its vivid colors and emotional impact. He suffered from anxiety and increasingly frequent bouts of mental illness throughout his life, and died largely unknown, at the age of 37, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Little appreciated during his lifetime, his fame grew in the years after his death. Today, he is widely regarded as one of history's greatest painters and an important contributor to the foundations of modern art. Van Gogh did not begin painting until his late twenties, and most of his best-known works were produced during his final two years. He produced more than 2,000 artworks, consisting of around 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings and sketches. Although he was little known during his lifetime, his work was a strong influence on the Modernist art that followed. Today many of his pieces—including his numerous self portraits, landscapes, portraits and sunflowers—are among the world's most recognizable and expensive works of art.
The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam played the song daily in the 1970s and a copy of the sheet music, together with a set of Van Gogh's paint brushes, is buried in a time capsule beneath the museum.
February 24, 20l0..the day my parents were married..Richard discovered and showed that this video received some honours:
#77 most discussed today education
#94 most viewed today education Netherlands
Now, I know why I made this...I knew Richard deserved some honourable mention somehow..and, we are making it happen...Thank you for whoever is responsible for this honourable mention..I am honoured.
I made this for a good friend I met here. I discovered what an artiste he is. And, I want to share his great talent with others. This tune which I have called Starry Starry Night all these years reminded me how it seems great artiste are not recognized until they are gone, so I decided to show this great artiste some recognition and appreciation while he is still with us...You can enjoy his works and talent on his channel ~CharmedQuarkZ99~
Thank you, Richard
I make videos to bring recognition to great classics. It is my hope that these tunes will spark a memory or that someone will hear it for the first time.
LYRICS:
Starry
starry night
paint your palette blue and grey
look out on a summer's day
with eyes that know the
darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils
catch the breeze and the winter chills
in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they did not know how
perhaps they'll listen now.
Starry
starry night
flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze
swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
Vincent's eyes of China blue.
Colors changing hue
morning fields of amber grain
weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's
loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
perhaps they'll listen now.
For they could not love you
but still your love was true
and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
starry night.
You took your life
as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
Vincent
this world was never
meant for one
as beautiful as you.
Starry
starry night
portraits hung in empty halls
frameless heads on nameless walls
with eyes
that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met
the ragged men in ragged clothes
the silver thorn of bloddy rose
lie crushed and broken
on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me
how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen
they're not
list'ning still
perhaps they never will.
thinking of my friend, Richard...

So beautiful Sherry, Don Mclean created a classic in this song. I remember him singing it on the Grammy awards all those years ago and you could hear a pin drop in that audience. I did'nt know it was about VanGogh untill many years later. Thank you so so much your wonderful talent in the video you have created. Remember "Potter's Hand" please :-)

What a beautiful & loving tribute to both Vincent & Richard's art. It brought tears to my eyes! I am proud to own a Richard original ("Grampa's Woodstove".... & it actually WAS my Grampa's stove too). Anyway, Richard is a very talented artist & musician. We did get to see original Van Gogh paintings in Washington DC several years ago & it was a real treat! Thanks Sherrylynn for doing this slide show...it's wonderful!!
Cheers, Bonnie
