The Auto Train is wonderful.
-
MHC's have been retired for some time now, and never ran on the Auto Train to the best of my knowledge. Baggage (other than standard carry-ons) is carried within the passengers' automobiles at the end of the train.
-
WAIT where's the MHC or Pass/Baggage car?
-
Great vídeo!!!

AutoTrain doesnt need anymore engines. Two is enough. I rode auto train this summer and we were ahead of schedule by over 1 hour in both directions. Auto Train often makes BETTER time than the Silver Star & Meteor. THe P42s are powerful engines and the grades arent that great enough to warrent 3 locos...

What's wierd is the auto train has 2 P42DCs, and the Coast Starlight has 3, and it is much lighter than the auto train, and I also found out that the P42DC is basically a Dash-8 with a streamline casing.

Its really not that weird if you think about it. The Coast Starlight has some serious grades to climb like Cuesta Grade in northern California and mountain grades in southern Oregon. However on the Auto Train, there aren't any steep grades on the run from Sanford, Florida to Lorton, Virginia.
