In inspiration of a video I saw where a girl improvised based on 5 pitches randomly selected from cards labeled A-G, I decided to do the same thing and try to take it a step further. There are references to the pitches as not only a starting musical "theme", but also this theme is transposed and played with different accidentals (pitches shifted half a step up or down), and the the pitch pattern is treated in other ways as well, such as being used as as a chord progression.
I've done free improvisation since I was 13, as well as directing an improvisation towards something, such as playing the music for someone specific, or based on a story (such as Romeo and Juliet), or to represent something in particular. This is how I started composing, but improvising is something I always go back to.
If you have any ideas for more musical rules to randomly use for an improvisation video, let me know!
