(WORDS HERE BELOW !!) Marcia Griffiths - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Excellent rare reggae version of this classic love song written in 1957 by Ewan MacColl for folk singer Peggy Seeger and popularised in 1969 & 1971 by Roberta Flack. Loving that haunting sound of the backing singers!

THE LYRIC:

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
Through the dark and the endless skies, my love

And the first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like a trembling heart of a captive stone
That was there at my command, my love

And the first time ever I layed with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew of joys would fill the earth
And last untill the end of time, my love
And last till the end of time, my love

And the first time ever I saw I saw your face your face your face
your face your face your face
Saw your pretty face oh yeah
I saw your pretty pretty face baby
I love that pretty face
And I want that pretty pretty face to come and ....

  • I absolutely love this version and Marc rocks!!! But a verse in the lyrics have me wondering... trembling heart of a captive stone??? I thought it was captive bird? Or am I thinking bout another song? Lol.

  • You're right, other singers/version do sing " Captive bird" but Marcia deffinately says something different and I find it difficult to hear clearly exactly what what it is she sings. I've listened over & over to that bit and still can't quite make it out, maybe it could be "captive soul"

If anyone knows for sure or has any other ideas please post your thoughts! ;)

  • shame the bass line dont come over.. puts it all into place

  • The bass IS there but it's too much/too deep for most laptop/pc speakers.

My laptop is linked to my 150 watt surround sound hi-fi which makes Youtube an absolute fantastic video jukebox!!!! ;o)

  • @slippery42 Try it through headphones ;)

  • You're not a reggae fan then!!!! Turn up your bass!!!! ;D
