This is a closed bolt spool valve (more like pressure controlled poppet, but debatable and largely semantics) that I designed a few years ago. The version shown is a retrofitted SP Ion.
It works in a manner nearly opposite that of the prototype Legion Shocker and the Nova. Air enters through the side of the rear of the can (just like in an Ion). A normally open valve supplies pressure behind the valve piston, and when vented, the change in pressure bias pushes the piston back both sealing the dump chamber and opening the valve.
It is very efficient, my prototype gets well over a case per 20 ounce CO2 fill (almost 2,300), I haven't tested the efficiency with HPA yet.
The ball is chambered in the breech at rest, the actual firing happens at the beginning of the cycle, with the bolt retracting and re-chambering of the next ball happening later in the cycle - true closed bolt operation.
Did you get it working yet?

Yes, look through my videos, it is named Prototype Closed Bolt Ion.

Is there a ball in the chamber when the bolt is closed (in the forward position)? Or is the chamber empty at the start of the cycle and a ball is chambered as the bolt moves back before firing? Very curious to know.

Ball is in the barrel at rest - gun fires - when the chamber pressure drops the bolt retracts - new ball drops into breech - bolt chambers ball - ready to fire again

Vids of it shooting soon?

Soon, I've got to finish making a rail/frame adapter so I can use a UTB and MAC 33, then I'll do a shooting video.
