(Sacramento) Legislation from Assemblymember Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) cleared the Assembly this week and has been sent to the Senate for consideration. Assembly Bill 419 makes changes to the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Local Government Reorganization Act in order to bring clarity to a vague section of law regarding the timeframe and process to be used by local governments after theyve been notified by their Local Agency Formation Commission that an item approved by LAFCO requires an election. Under current law, there is no deadline to do this. The bill's provisions would take effect on January 1, 2011. Heres more from Assemblymember Caballero in this Assembly Access video.
