The orchestrion simulates a 40 piece orchestra. Installed under the stairs in Kinloch Castle (some of the pipes had to be reshaped to fit), it entertained guests of the island's owners, George and Monica Bullough.

  • Fantastic instrument, but it like a bit untuned... *****

  • I guess you are right! The whole of the castle needs a lot of attention but the owner, SNH, is funded to conduct research on the island, not maintain historic buildings. There have been many studies but as yet no implemented solution to repair the castle.

  • @sensiblechap1 if you look at the other videos of this exact same orchestrion on Youtube (some linked in the right sidebar), you will see and hear that it sounds MUCH better in those videos. Perhaps it was just having an off day here because of the weather, or perhaps it was serviced shortly after this video was taken.

  • Actually this is in better tune than most instruments here on YT. There do seem to be some significant ciphers though, and those are more worrying than a simple tune-up.

  • A monument to Heath Robinson engineering.Splendid! 5 *

  • 0:15 The Belle of New York Selection.
