Imagine if these things were still around today .

cave lions were not lions.they were a different species.its just the same as sabretooth tigers are not really tigers

They say that Cave Lion were the largest cat that ever lived, larger than modern day lions, almost 5 feet tall at the shoulder.

Did someone see the big fangs in his mouth?
-
@takkubell so female lions are not lions?
-
only cause it's named Lion it doesnt mean it has to have Mane.. remember that the cavelion/american lion where bigger than the Liger.
-
@takkubell. Lioness doesent have mane.. you're comment is just redic....
-
Male lions don't do the hunting, the females do and female lions don't have manes. So maybe the one in the video is a female.
-
@takkubell Lioness' don't have manes. The males have the large manes while the females do not. It's still a lion, not just a carivore cat.
-
@takkubell You're way off. In fact the only type of Lion proved to have a "proper" mane is the African through to India, modern Panthera leo groups. Panthera leo spelaea, the subspecies depicted here has no phylogenetic disposition towards male mane development (Burger at al, 2004) , no skeletal remains suggest a mane was present (Deidrich, 2007, 2009) and early human depictions of lions as late as 30,000 years ago in the Chauvet caves clearly show mane-less males.
a lion without a mane is not a lion.. just some carnivore cat..

@takkubell Tsavo lions are maneless, does that mean that they are "just some carnivore cat" ?

@Schamah
oh come on ..don't go all scientific now. u know what i meant.. plus no scientist has ever proved 100% that both European cave lions and american lions were maneless..
takkubell 1 year ago
@takkubell Yehh sure , I never said that they were maneless. Some experts also state that they also had a mane like modern lions.
