During Operation Cactus, the Indian Navy was called in to rescue the Maldivian hostages taken by Sri Lankan mercenaries off the coast of Sri Lanka. After the Maldivian coup headed by a once prominent Maldivian businessperson named Abdullah Luthufi, who was operating a farm on Sri Lanka. INS Godavari (F20) and INS Betwa captured the freighter, rescued the hostages and arrested the mercenaries near the Sri Lankan coast.

  • Interesting how the IN captain completely dodges the question about Indian naval commandos numerous times. MARCOs' infamous secrecy at work!

  • Look out for a book set in the Maldives, in late 1988, coming soon!

  • but then from soldier to soldier thank you...

  • @TheIndianPredator Jai Hind, vande maatram

  • my uncle commanded a battalion in Sri Lanka for India he said they took alot of casualties cuz of the thick forest!!!
