Great opera = great(orchestra + singing + music) + (let's pray the prentensions of the producer don't get too much in the their way)

Singing wonderful. But why do these modern producers have to put on productions that struggle every inch against what Mozart / Da Ponte intended? There is no humour here - it's as if to laugh at a comedy is a crime. Although not as hideous as the same producer's Figaro and Giovanni, this is still not Mozart's Cosi, rather the thoughts of some daft producer trying to make a name for himself.
