By teaching Petey to rotate his hind end while fixing his front paws on a target, I can quickly teach him to rotate into finish position simply by setting my criteria to "bump into my leg".

Instead of free-shaping the rotation, I used a target (target stick to start, then a hand target) to prompt the head turn behavior which ultimately led to the rotation behavior.

  • Nice job, Andre! Petey is so cute!

  • I loved this video. I learned this method at a seminar and will keep coming back to this video to review. Plus I have a beagle. This is also good for dogs who do not know where their hind legs are when teaching the left finish or pivot.
