One of the longest excisting bands on the world, these senegalese guys, highly influenced by cuban music as well. Take your time and let yourself float away on these relaxed tropical sounds.

  • Thanks for providing the translation and info about this beautiful song.

  • @sacundim nice :) thanks a lot!

  • @syrealaniceta1986 The song is about Amílcar Cabral, the leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, who was assassinated by allies of the Portuguese.

Rough translation: "For everything that happens in the world / We should raise our hands / We thank God / Brothers // We all join our hands / We write (?) with all our strength / Cabral / Get up from your grave (?) so we can embrace you."

(The parts with the question marks I'm not sure about...)

  • @VickyTico No, it's not Swahili.

@Tschadsk This song is in Guinea-Bissau Creole, a Portuguese-influenced language spoken in Guinea-Bissau and the neighboring Casamance region of Senegal. It's very closely related to Cape Verdean Creole, which is spoken in the Cape Verde Islands (home of the very famous singer Cesaria Evora).

Most Baobab songs are either in Wolof (most common language in Senegal) or Mandinka. Their other Creole songs I know are "Utru Horas," "Soldadi" and "Ami ki ta bay."

  • @Tschadsk that's Swahili

  • so fucking cool and smooth..i am wondering what they are singing..

  • Oh.....I Loooooooooove This song, Best music ever!

  • @panhapubis: Thanks for transcribing this! What language is that? And - do you know, where one can get other lyrics / translations from Orchestra Baobab?

I would especially be interested in "Papa Ndiaye" and "Ndeleng Ndeleng"... Cheers.

  • formidable

  • @panhapubis I would like to know what the song is about. It sounds so nice....Could you please translate?
