If you check a cockpit view of the STS-122 Launch, it looks like Rex is having a blast the whole time. He keeps smiling.

@Mattsretiring Mirrors are optional to the crew to help them see. Its their choice to have one if they want it. An accident is most likely to happen during the 1st stage or booster stage. The chances after their gone are minimal so they allow them to raise the visors.

2 questions-why do the crew all carry mirrors?
-why after the solid boosters release are the crew able to lift their visors?

Have you ever thought maybe his eyes were closed because of the G FORCE? My gosh, they're taking off by ROCKETS! Maybe he's praying...you seeing hoding on to his belt and he's vertainly not sitting still:/
