You might have heard the term "brain food" used to describe food that's good for you. Doctors at Mayo Clinic say there really is a diet that benefits the brain. But this diet is not for everybody. It's for kids who have epilepsy, and it's based on extremely high fats and very few carbs. More on how the ketogenic diet is helping some kids with epilepsy become seizure free.

  • This diet has been a lifesaver for my daughter, Cady, who is featured in this video. She is now 2 years 2 months seizure-free! We thank God, the keto diet and the doctors at Mayo Clinic for her miraculous recovery! Understand the video is about Cady--not about me, my weight or what diet treatments I should try. Thus your comments should be about the keto diet as a treatment for epilepsy. If you wish to comment on my size, email me or remain silent. Doing otherwise undermines the message. Thanks.

  • Amazing that this might control seizures for some people!

  • UPDATE: My daugther, Cady, was featured in this video in 2008. At the time, she was seizure-free while on a 4:1 ketogenic diet ratio and 1 anti-seizure medication. Over the years, we weaned her from meds and tapered the diet to a more palatable 2:1 ratio. This past summer, after 3.5 years seizure-free and on the diet, we weaned her completely. Cady's been eating regular food for 6 months now--and LOVES life as normal, healthy first grader! Praises to God and the keto diet for saving our girl!

  • I watched a Lifetime movie about this. It made me cry, it was so touching. Food has a lot to do with our health and we forget that sometimes. My son has O.D.D. and Aspergers and I would love to try this diet on him to see if it would work at all. I know when I am eating high protein, high fat, like on the Atkins diet, it made me feel so calm and relaxed in my brain. I have been on a raw food diet for a year and do not feel the same way, but feel it is healthier. It's amazing what food can do.

  • I believe the low carb diet also helps relax people in some way...I know i know I am mellower when consistently on the diet.

  • @TerraRyzer LOL

  • My daughter began this diet at age 1 with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN as well. It has been our miracle. She was seizure free for 12 months with one relaspe because the diet was off a bit for a few weeks, she is back on track without seizures again. We are so thankful. Our daughter was a ragdoll on all the various medications they tried. Within 24 hours of being on this diet, she rolled over for the first time at age 1!! IShe now can almost crawl and makes many sounds.

  • ...not to mention the amazing healing in the gut this diet provides. That includes a bunch of "incurable" allergies and food sensitivities I've gotten rid of! Thanks so much for sharing this video keep spreading the word!

  • Great for weight loss too

  • is she ok without the keto diet now that 2.5 yrs are past???? congrats by the way...

  • @leanonme1 Atkins with less protein and more fat resulting in higher level of Ketones.

  • @leanonme1 Atkins with less protein/more fat and the carbs remain very restricted during the life of the diet.
