Voyage of a Narnia Fan #28 Where I am post-trailer

I am expecting the film to be more negative than positive, and while I think it could possibly, maybe work well as a film, I don't hold a hope it will work as an adaptation at all by this point.

With the Deep Magic lines, I think Adamson understood the book perfectly. He intentionally changed the meaning.

With VDT, I feel like they don't understand how drastically they're changing what VDT is.

@GPuddle I recall him saying the Deeper Magic made no sense to him, so that's why he changed it for the sappy "True meaning of sacrifice" (which is what exactly?)

I agree that there are positive aspects of this film, independent of its merit as a worthwhile adaptation. As soon as he was signed, I knew that Dante Spinotti would be the true "star" of the film, and that certainly seems to be correct, assessing the visuals. And, yes Will Poulter looks like a fantastic choice. That said, the abysmal, shocking, abominable deviations from the wonderful story have completely crushed my joy for this film. I have no hope left, no expectations at all. Zero. Zip.

I'm starting to appreciate the original BBC versions of Narnia, however under-budget they may be! This is disheartening to hear, as my favorite book, and I'm hoping that SOME sort of good will at least come out of it...*sigh*

He said it seemed like "a bit of a cheat to him" that Aslan knew about the Deeper Magic, but the Witch did not.

According to Adamson, the true meaning of "sacrifice" is the giving of one's self. The Witch thinks of sacrifice as burning a bull on an alter or something. She doesn't really get it. So she read about the magic, but didn't interpret it correctly.

Well, I'm being extremely positive here, but what if fox just messed the marketing up completely. Remember bridge to therabithia? Those trailers told people it was a cheap fantasy film ripoffs, but in the end, it turned out to be much more like the book than the trailers said it would be.

This is very unlikely, but it is possible.

But, yeah, they probably had a shot at making the best and most original fantasy film ever, and they ruined it.

I'm starting to hate Hollywood.
