My middle school had robotics as well and I was in it too. We played with Legos and made cars that followed white lines. That was back in 1990.
How much has it progressed since then? What does your middle school robotics class build? Make a video of the most sophisticated robot built by a middle school class in America and post it on YouTube and send me a link. I'd like to see it.

Sanshiro Sugata, and Jumaru (Plawres) cartoon was ahead of time. It also predicted the first people who would spend time like this would be the Japs. Awesome.......somewhat.
