I agree, Roth makes music, Latry only performances.
Roth plays with his mind, Latry with his fingers.

LOL the noise is really immense! Good we normally don't hear anything of this when we're downstairs in the cathedral :)

i agree! i feel roth adds a human element to the music, i feel i can (as an organist) relate to him and really get into the music, latry is fantastic but almost machine like!

Daniel roth is the best interpreter of a long time since the great geniusses of j.j. grunenwald and m. dupre. So don't underestimate him

The chamades were added to create a focussed sound down the nave and were subsequently refined and modelled on the Cavaillé-Coll chamades at St-Sernin, Toulouse. In my opinion, they're a fine addition to an organ with which Cavaillé-Coll himself was never entirely satisfied. Roth and Latry are both superb on many kinds of organ, both modernised and not. Having played in St-Sulpice, I can attest to the wonder of that instrument, but I greatly love the Notre-dame organ too.

You know, I dislike the Saint-Sernin en Chamades just as much as I do the current Notre Dame en Chamades. I'm all for them - I think en Chamades are great for just the purpose you've listed, but they've *always* been sitting on way too much wind, and they now sound...blatty. We refer to them as 'Notre Dame's Fart Machines' in my local circle.

Latry is modern, Roth is old school.

That's not fair on Daniel.
