@77edster he sang better in the early 70s but he had nodules removed off his throat for over use.

Wow - didn't know he could sing as well as this after the surgery. His falsetto work here is stunning in it's sweetness. Pity he can't do it now. Very impressed.

His voice was so good in 1993, he could hold a note then too which he can't do thesedays (you can't if you sing from the throat)

I was just listening to "Goodbye Yellow Brick" from Austin this year... and I think I heard a bit of the falsetto on it... it's on "you know you can't hold me forever

I've also found falsetto on very recent recordings of All The Girls Love Alice ("If I give you my number"). It's not very strong, but he manages to hit the notes.
