http://www.BradFrankDrums.com - Lesson 2 in the Drag Rudiment tutorials. Part 1 showcases a demo song in which I use the snare drum rudiment called The Drag (sometimes mistakenly called a Ruff) around the drum set. I used basic Drags to embellish my fills and time keeping and also used the Drag sticking to inspire new ideas around the kit. Part 2 demonstrates how I came up with the basic 16th note and triplet ideas starting with the basic Drag. Parts 3-4 demonstrate advanced linear and double bass drum ideas. I was inspired by Steve Gadd's interpretation of the rudiment the Ratamacue. Be sure to pick up his video "Up Close"

  • What size sticks do you use?

  • @CarlosGonzolas The sticks are the Buddy Rich signature model by Vic Firth. They are essentially a slightly longer 5A. The ones I use in this video have a nylon tip but I normally use the wood tip version.

  • hey dude excellent video. what recording equipment have you used? i wanna send in a dvd of me playing in order to apply to berklee college of music

  • @ransherparihar I use a combo of AudioTechnica and AKG mics. I have a Tascam US-1641 interface and mixed everything using Garageband on my iMac. Pretty simple and inexpensive set up. Good luck with your audtion!

  • Really helpful

  • Sounds great! I'm self taught on the drums, can't read music and love how this basic technique can put such a fluid and solid sound down.

Fluid/Solid? Hope that makes sense. I'll be trying this technique tomorrow.

Man I wish I would have taken lessons! People have thought I did and my neighbor thought I played for the symphony. Too great compliments but now I have a new thing to practice.

    Thank you.

  • wow that so fake

  • great video...your drumset sounds really really great, what kind of drumheads are those? what are the dimensions of your snare drum?
