  • Dont know, probably JBL..or Altec, one thing to bear in mind, that cinemas like this were desighned like one big speaker, the acoustic elements of the building were important in the desighn, in one place i worked in years ago, the RCA sound system was 30watts maximum and this seated over 2000 people.

  • People have many theories why the place shut,

i think the council gave priority to new screens that took benefit from grants etc, when you think of all the millions of pounds the rank org, and other operators have poured into the council coffers over the years, then in effect blown them out, it was the same with the local shops, it stinks.

  • I think alot of it nay have been scrapped, to stop it getting ito the independants, but what would you do?

  • I found the rest of this, i filmed, key in :NOTTINGHAM ODEON: To see more.

  • The rank organisation mad so many cock-ups over the years, it wasant until the end, they had some good managers in, but the horse had already bolted, R.I.P.

  • The worst part of this clousure in Nottingham,is that this venue still atracted good crowds, i could not film very much on this last day, because evryone was pissed off, and the air in the place was blue, so i went to the pub instead, i think the council rates killed this place, like many other buisineses in rip off nottingham, its like the mob, always got the sqeeze on you...m.b.

  • @danielld75 That equipment looks ancient. By now the urban explorers and new wave urbex smash crews have probably got in and busted it all up!

  • regardless of them having first refusal on the cornerhouse they wouldnt probably still not have competed with the showcase on lenton lane , due to not being able to get as many screens as the showcase due to the lack of available space and also the problem for me was getting to the new one as the bus service was utter bollocks (excuse my french)

  • ARH the days of going to the odeon as a kid on saturday mornings to watch whatever was on for 10-50p, the saturdays i remember a gang of us lads going to watch the latest Star Wars movie during a six year span , not only the odeon but also the A.B.C up the road

i think 1 reason the odeon died was because the new one (showcase cinema) at lenton lane had more screens + there was the bowling ally near it as well......!

  • Very interesting movie. It's very romantic place.

  • @computertom90 all i know is the surrounds are JBL 8330a and 8340a

  • @MANTLEBERG I used to be lent to the Odeon from the Gaumont box staff in 1962 when worked there. In Feb 1963 the Beatles first UK tour was live on stage. I'd become a trainee reporter by then and got into rehearsals in the morning despite tight security - even then - because I'd kept my staff ID card!

I got an exclusive 10 mins interview, mainly with John Lennon, which put me firmly on the map.

  • @computertom90 It shut because Rank sold Odeon. the new owners spent the next 3 years closing most of the core city centre sites. It was all about money. Odeon were given first refusal to open a new cinema in The Cornerhouse.

  • I love older motion picture projectors.

  • Do you know what make and model of speakers this cinema used ?. shame that it closed down :(
