There have been many threats to the First Amendment in America. It seems that there are conditions on when free speech can be utilized and some cases have reached the Supreme Court. Medea Benjamin, co-founder of Code Pink, tells us when free speech is and isn't free.

years ago there was a pedophile who wrote stories, and distributed them about children being molested. people tried to shut him down and he went to the supreme court and they upheld his right to freedom of speech. a pedophile can incite the exploitation of children but people can't say isreal is wrong!! bask in your rights america, soon you'll have none.

I wonder if there would be another republic that would one day surpass the United States and a true constitutionally free nation with free markets and an uncompromising civil rights mechanism? This nation would be able to secure their people without compromising their civil liberties? It would also make the United States appear like an oppressive regime? Makes me sick to think of such questions but it could be immanent.
