I think the biggest reason wrestling from the 70's and 80's is better (aside from most fans thinking it was a competitive sport) was the lack of stupid story lines. Wrestlers had gimmicks, cut promos and had feuds, but the important focus was on winning a title and defending it.
You had good guys and bad guys, heel turns and face turns, but who had the belt was the important thing.
Now it is a weird, low class soap opera, created for people with a 15 year old's mentality.
