Gordon Clune (the father) explains why he had a copper still made for his farm, the Clune children gather choke cherries for the still, and Adrienne Clune (the mother) sings the Irish folk song to the family.

The lyrics are:

Gather up the pots and the old tin can
The mash, the corn, the barley and the bran
Run like the devil from the excise man
Keep the smoke from rising, Barney!

Frontier House is another great show made by PBS that took 3 modern day families and had them live a summer in Montana as if they were pioneers from 1883

  • The Clunes were millionaires so I guess they're use to cheating.

  • cant believe we're doing american west for history an this links most bullshitiest thing ive ever learned of course its interesting to see what they do but when it goe sinto detail damn ..... a buffalo came and gave a script on how to live your life damm they have some serious lying issues come on face it

  • The Clunes didn't suck, they were just a rich family from California.

Yeah the kids were unenthusiastic, but look at it from their point of view - they were dragged away from their friends into this. They won't appreciate what a unique opportunity this was until later in life.

Give some credit to Gordon and Adrienne Clune; they showed up prepared to do what it takes to survive in the 1800s. Gordon was ready to hunt his own game and make moonshine. Adrienne knew how to cook and run a kitchen.

  • The Clunes were so unlikable. All they did was bitch, and cheat. Why even go on the show?

  • we're watching this in class.

but i didnt watch the first episode and we have a project on it

    Help?!

  • yeah you are right. That was the main complaint from Mr. Clune when his family returned home. He started showing all of the venison he had stored in his freezer and said that they should have been allowed to hunt.

  • Mr. Clune was obese when they started the show. They are rich in real life. I forget what Mr. Clune did for a living, but PBS showed their Mansion in malibu after they returned from the frontier. The clunes cheated on this show. Farming was so difficult among other things so they were starving, which led to them having relatives come and bring them food to eat. It is a great show, I wish they would bring it back.

  • i never saw the show before. what did the clunes do(or didn't they do)? i just tuned into this clip for the still : )

  • They really weren't allowed to HUNT? Booo. I still may buy a copy of this though., but I fail to see how you can really call it frontier life without being able to kill wild game...

  • i remember this (;

    it was so great!
