Few composers let out such anguish and discover such beauty. Shostakovich was more than just a genius composer, he was (is) a mouthpiece for humankind. Thanks for posting.

DD playes the counterpoint from the famous "INVASION". Not the main party, the counterpart.
Shostakovich, as always, is a clown. But he is a genius.
A real composer should be like him.

I have to say I don't 'get' that bland, muddy, constant style Russians seem to play their own works in around this period.

Shostakovich says "My 7th symphony inspired by the terrible events of 1941. To our fight with fascism, to our coming victory over the enemy, to my home city of Leningrad I dedicate this composition. I will play an excerpt from the first part of the 7th symphony".
