I'm talking about joining the military. That is, a type of community service that involves killing people.
Community service is not slavery or involuntary servitude. Is that so difficult to understand?
Bloody hell, all the Bill says is that they want to look into it as an idea! It's not even going to happen, is it? So I don't know why you're getting your knickers in a twist.
I am gratified to hear that you are not anti-social. Just opposed to the idea of serving the community. Fine.

1. nothing you just said makes any sense.
2. The last statement you made shows your extreme ignorance.
3. Nothing you said rebutes my actual comment regarding the constitution.
There was a reason that ammendment was written that way. If I want my children to volunteer, it should not be mandatory. That defeats the principle. People should want to help not be forced. Finally, I am the least anti-social person you will ever meet.
-
Exactly! Your crime is one of being an anti-social enemy of the people.
No, but seriously. It's not charity, it's community service. To describe it as "slavery" or "involuntary servitude" is plain daft.
In principle, it's not a bad idea. You're just so twisted in your paranoid conservative conspiracism that the only kind of community service you would countenance would be that which involves killing people.

yeah, we spotted the Kenya reference earlier, mate. Conspiracy theory bullshit. By declaring him 'illegal' you don't need to engage with real politics, how convenient. (Just like paying taxes, eh?)
Meanwhile, back in the real world of grown-up politics...

so for those who are 18-25 who have to serve 3 months basic training, will they get paid? They have college to start and may have jobs, so will they be compensated for the 3 months of training?

It's a matter of principal in regards to the United States Constitution: As stated in the video: Amendment XIII Sec. 1. Neither Slavery Nor Involuntary Servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Secondly, it's sounding like Mandatory Charity, and those two words don't even make sense in the same sentance. if it's "charity" then it can't e mandatory.

So referring to "health & education" equates to "re-education camps"; "saving our planet" equates to "energy police" (what the hell are they, exactly?); and "restoring our standing in the world" (perhaps through a US version of VSO, in which young people work in places where they're needed) means "volunteers for global service". What on earth is wrong with global service anyway? We are all on the same planet, which is in peril due to greedy capitalists,. Wise up, you fool and stop wasting time.
-
The UK government has also been proposing a similar scheme. Most people here kind of think it would be no bad thing for young people to have to volunteer to help out in the community, either through charities, social services, youth clubs, sports organisations, or whatever. There are not enough jobs to go round as it is and underemployed young people can be troublesome.
Also, it gives youngsters valuable life experiences they might not otherwise get, perhaps giving them a social conscience.

"volunteerism and education"? Sounds like a fucking good idea to me. What's your problem you anti-social idiots? I can imagine it being a very good thing to have young people do a bit of voluntary service - so what if it's mandatory? You choose who you want to help and where - e.g. picking up litter, cleaning polluted areas up, helping the elderly, coaching soccer to younger kids, etc., etc.
Tell me a better suggestion for "strengthening the social fabric of the nation".
Rob E., A DUAL citizen of Israel and the US and an X Massad terrorist. How in the Hell did a Massad terrorist ever get into congress.
Isn't it amazing that US Born Citizens CAN NOT have Dual citizenship. If you want to become a citizen of another country you give up your US Citizenship.
This is Bias and Discrimination in every since of the Word.
Over 1/2 of our Congress hold Dual citizenship with Israel. What does that tell you ?
We have been usurped and undermined and raped by Congress.
