1.NEVER use pliers on a musical instrument. why the hell are you pulling off the bottom caps with pliers anyway? your gonna end up denting the valve casing and needing a realignement at a repair shop. 2.its called laquer, finish, or plating, not paint. you should know that if your playing a silver instrument with a 1st valve trigger. 3.Dont use detergent, its hard on the brass. 4.depress the valves corresponding to the slides or they will permanently become sharp. christ, kid, ask your teacher.

you should never use pliers, you could damage your trumpet by doing that. and you use cold or room temperature water

the best way to remove stuck bottom caps is by tapping them on an angle with a wooden headed hammer. you have to hit fairly hard but since it's wood, it won't mar the caps. the hits will break up the dirt enough to get the caps off.
