The hype and pressure put on Squaresoft after the releases of Final Fantasy VI and VII was massive. They didnt disappoint us either and continued to deliver excellence. FFVIII was another masterpiece created by Square.

Finished this the other day after 9 years of restarting over and over. I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by the climax but the characters in general, I think, were some of the strongest in the series. Squall's social anxieties and depressive qualities were actually often strikingly life like and Rinoa (love her or hate her) provided an amicable female lead. I know it's not an unpopular game but I certainly think it deserves to regarded on the same level 7, perhaps higher.

this bring backs so many memorys people i remember a lil kid getting this for chrismas i played this game all day and night day after day until school started again then would come home do homework fast then play all day this is a true classic one of best they ever made thie new crap i see final fantasy making is not cool like this

I went up to FF9 and FF9 wasn't good but everything below it that I played was awesome.

FF7 best game of all time, FF6 is also right up there and so is FF8.

@Galgamos only ff7 and ff8 are worth talking about i only wish they would remake ff7 coz lets be honest it's the number one RPG with ff8 a close second!! and yes skyrim is fuckin awesome. but you can't beat a game where there's bad ass summons

my fav ff game of all time. zell is also my fav char with vivi 2nd. they would make great teamates. zell gets the hot dogs vivi uses fire to cook them.

This was back in the day when the vision came first, then they built the mechanics around it. Notice how visually distinct every FF from 6-10 was from it's predecessor? That was because everytime they made a new game they had a new, inspired story to tell. The various combat systems were fun, but they came second to the characters and plot in these games (though admittedly 8 kind of hit a brick wall at the end)
