You're actually a good example of an earlier point that Shermer was making, when he talked about how the "left" really doesn't understand the "right". You seem to be completely unaware that a significant percentage of the population actually would identify with Col. Jessup, and for very good reasons.
Is it just me, or was he holding up Jack's character as the hero of that scene? The whole point was that the character was a bitter, jaded, self-righteous, micro-dictator who had lost sight of any of the ideals he claims to uphold and defend and instead sunk into the lowest form of might makes right, and ends justify the means mentality. In other words, a broken and contemptible excuse for a human being.
Albanians and serbs? Is he seriously calling resistance against the muslim conquest of serbian territory and annexation to create Greater Albania xenophobia? That's an insult to the hundreds of thousands of serbs who have been killed throughout the centuries by these savages. Opposing colonization of your country is NOT xenophobia. It is very rational indeed mr. Shermer.
