  • What I think is hardest to understand is that he IS acting normally. It's just we the audience know what really happened, he did not! So yes, he is angry and lashing out. Not for one moment does he believe what he said and we the audience are suppose to know that too because we know he gave up half his kingdom for her. She however does not know that. He had and still wants her so bad, it hurts him, therefore verbally lashes out.

  • @doctorsam000 When did Arthur say he hated Gwen? I think the fact that he yielded to his feelings in the Ealdor, dismissed Princess Mithian and gave up a significant portion of his kingdom for Gwen not knowing at that point where she was says it all. He was, is and always will be deeply in love with her. Him telling her again that they were over was his head fighting with his heart. He'd already forgiven her. He wanted her back, but in this moment his head had yet to accept that.

  • It's testimony to Angel Coulby's great acting that she can still pull at our heart strings with her back turned and body language, when walking away from Arthur. She's so good.

  • the thunder-murmur and rain really reflected Gwen's sorrow in this scene *ache* ahhh so beautiful </3

  • Agree @ELLABELLAMJ Arthur gave Gwen hope, unbeknownst to himself, because of the way he spoke-all in a rush-she knew to bide her time as there was still a chance <3

  • @poppyf01 So true. He said those harsh words far too quickly. It never sounded genuine at all. He wanted to hurt her back especially due to what happened when he first saw her in Ealdor. He knew he wanted her back but didn't want her to think it would be easy for her to smile at him and he'd melt. Well, he was in for a shock because that is exactly what happened. Following the hug it made him feel vulnerable again, then she touches him, hence the harsh talk.

  • @ELLABELLAMJ agree, agree! i had that little story in my head where arthur sent gwaine or percival after her making sure she's okay although he's so extremely hurt. and maybe you're right, maybe he has been looking for her. it would be something healing for my arwen heart. :)

  • I so agree with your succinct answer @naimasophie. I take comfort in the way Arthur rushes his words-tries to get them all out in one breath before he loses his nerve-being around her once again he feels the power she has over his heart & he's afraid-so goes into defensive mode-he's a young man but an old warrior-but this strategy was doomed to fail as Gwen knows him best & she knew to keep trying-I'm so glad she did as when she told him she never stopped loving him was the lethal blow. <3

  • @2schokoschwestern That one is interesting because I think the banishment would be in character but not ensuring her safety, was not. In my head I felt he must have sent soldiers to watch her until she reached a safe haven, who knows. She did find a villiage until it was raided. It was interesting what Arthur had said to Merlin when he finally admitted his feelings about Gwen. "How can you love someone who cannot be found?" Suggests he had been looking for her maybe?

  • @ELLABELLAMJ hmm, i get your point, absolutely. there are just thoughts in my head like "what if gwen had died out of camelot caused by your banishment, arthur?" and something like that.. but i will get over my worries, they'll always stay my OTP. :p

  • @LutzDeluxe I agree. Well said!

  • @ELLABELLAMJ I so agree with what you've said. I think it's difficult for people to seperate the audience perspective - seeing the full picture, from the character's perspectives - who only know what they've seen and experienced. Also, as you said this scene was very true to life as was the scene in Ealdor. This is what happens when you love someone and still want them after there's been a breach of trust. You have moments of "weakness" but then you pull away again and lash out.
