Helmet cam of my second race ever. I did well for about half the race. I was with a really fast pack and making great time. Unfortunately my ankle started getting tired and and as I tried closing gaps in front of me in the pace line it was giving me more and more wobbly pushes or other anomalies. Getting increasingly tired from not being in a draft I decided to drop out of the line rather than drag the rest of the line behind me back as I failed to close the gaps.
It was a disappointment to not be able to keep up but I was really lucky to hold on for so long with all these late season skaters having spent my summer recovering from a broken ankle. It was definitely the hardest I've ever skated and my ankle was swollen and sore after the race. I've iced it the last few days and the swelling was gone by the day after the race. I don't think I did any harm but I was definitely pushing it.
I incorporated several GPS files of other participants and their stats can be seen on the left. The colored dots on the map correspond to the speed and lap colors associated with the skaters names. GPS data can be very accurate but in a dynamic environment with trees there will sometimes be inaccuracies. The graph at the top is my elevation (red), speed (green) and heart rate (blue).
