lets make a couple of things clear.
Before the govt gives legal status to millions of people, Natives and people with "legal papers" need to be employed first.
. i worked on construction, and i know over 30% of illegals work on construction, and as it turned out, when constructions people started losing jobs, those that were paid the most were fired first
do you know they were?
on the other hand, illegals, who earn less were not fired unless absolutely necessary

There is already a way to become a citizen or a legal immigrant. It starts at the consulate office of the immigrant's native country. Regarding your argument about knowing who is here, that would be a mistake. The same mistake as if legalizing counterfeit money, in order to know how much money is in the country. If the government starts doing that, then it will create an incentive to counterfeit more money and dilute the value of the real money in the nation.

There are more comgressman who will loose their seats if they support amnesty for illegal aliens. The mayority of people do not suport amensty for illegals, even more now with the high unemployment rate.

The problem is getting worst by each moment we do not do something about it, though. How can we say we are fully secure within our borders if we do not know who is here and who isn't. Wouldn't it be better to require immigrants who are here illegally to register, pay taxes, and learn English while they await their chance to become American citizens? I think as Americans we owe ourselves the chance to right what's wrong with the system.
