During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation hearing today, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) questioned Phil Gordon, an Obama Administration nominee for a senior State Department position, regarding his past statements against Congressional recognition of the Armenian Genocide. As in the past, Sen. Menendez reiterated that no foreign power should have a veto over the executive or legislative branch when it comes to human rights.

Hearing Chairwoman, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) later asked Gordon to discuss his views on a stronger U.S.-Turkey relationship.

  • If you look at my June 2008 YouTube video, "Turkish Diplomat predicts that Obama will wimp out on Armenian Genocide recognition," you'll see the Turks have been smug on this issue for the past 8 months. Let's hope, for the sake of justice for 1.5 million victims, that Obama does not do what the Turks predicted 8 months ago.

  • MR. PHILIP H. GORDON,

STOP using the word TRAGEDY... You are fooling only yourself... What took place in 1915 was a GENOCIDE!!!

  • Menendez - you seriously don't have a clue what you are talking about..

  • It is not revenge but justice and recognition.

  • How depressed are all of you that Obama is selling you out? Sorry that your odious plans of revenge have yet again been spoiled.

  • Gordon co-wrote a book with Turkish scholar Omer Taspinar called 'Winning Turkey Back' on Oct 2008. What do you expect? He receives money from Ankara since Brookings Institution receives big money from Ankara..

  • Here is another victim of Turkish government.. He is just like the previous idiot who could not use the word Genocide.. It is like they are paid to avoid the word.. wait a minute. they ARE PAID to avoid using the word.. my apologies.. i thought there is still justice in this world.. I hope that Armenian from all over the world stand up together and win this beast.. until that happens, we will never get Turks pay for what they did and will never make US to recognize the Genocide.. LETS BE UNITED.

  • I believe the state department has many who are not on the side of Armenians. No matter who is in all promises are empty as far I am concerned.

  • This is going to be a hard battle. Unless more Armenians join the struggle for recognition, we will never see our presidents say the G word.

But most Armenians in America do not care or do care but do not do anything to help Armenian organizations such as ANCA.
