  • Wow! That brought back fond memories. When local TV was worth watching. When 5, 9 and 11 showed cartoons in the morning and afternoon. Running home Erin school so I wouldn't miss toons like He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Popeye, Woody, Looney Tunes!! Man I could keep going on and on! Sad when morning news talk shows have taken over the mornings and court shows the afternoon. Funny too how the more channels we have the less there is to watch. Sad too when Boomerang came around I

Those were the only channels I had then & now since I never had cable (except for my last semester in college in my dorm room). I remember watching Bugs Bunny Daffy Duck & Friends in the mornings on WWOR 9 and Bugs & Porky in the afternoons on WNYW Fox 5--both shows that had Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies cartoons (I have bumpers for both). I also remember Popeye (I liked the cartoons of the white suit Popeye with Sea Hag & the rest the best) in the afternoons.

Then on WNYW Fox 5 there was also Woody Woodpecker, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Thundercats, He-Man, and Silver Hawks. Later on I think Peter Pan & the Pirates was also on 5 and I think Duck Tales too (before being on 11). Tom & Jerry was on 11. Later on, 9 had Bugs' Buddies in the morning, which was another Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies program. I think 11 also had Pink Panther. All those were great cartoons.

From 1987-90 you could probably have had a complete collection of uncensored Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies cartoons by taping the Bugs Bunny Daffy Duck & Friends, Bugs & Porky, and Bugs' Buddies (I'm not sure if the Censored 11 were shown though). If I was older & had the supply of tapes I have now, I would have taped them all. That WWOR show on Sundays, Steampipe Alley, also showed them. I think DJ Kat on Fox 5 also showed them.

  • I remember seeing this when I started watching Thundercats on that channel. Back when Fox was airing cartoons. They don't do that anymore.

I'd hate to be a kid today. Back then, channels 5 (WNYW/Fox), 9 (WWOR), and 11 (WPIX) all showed cartoons in the afternoon. And I know 9 & 11 showed them in the morning too (maybe even 5, but I don't remember). I remember while I was in college in the 90's how all sorts of talk shows started taking the place of the cartoons and how sick I was of talk shows.

  • @wtcvidman Yep.

  • @cybertronization

Is Porky's Pooch the one where Porky gets hounded (no pun intended) by that talking dog? Or is it the one where he's bothered by Charlie Dog?

  • @wtcvidman I watched the original black-and-white versions of "Porky's Pooch" and "Porky Pig's Feat" online recently, but I do remember seeing them in color.

  • @cybertronization

And they were all unedited from their colorized versions. There was also Steampipe Alley (a variety show) that showed those old era WB cartoons too since it was on the same channel.

I'm glad many of them were re-released & want the rest to be released too (though I heard the Golden Collection Vol 6 was the last GC volume), but for me I like the faded colors of the cartoons I taped off TV since it seems nostalgic.

BTW I posted bumpers of Bugs Bunny Daffy Duck & Friends.
