**Update** 12/2011 message from Amazon appeared on the kindle (I don't know whether this applies to newer generations) saying: "There is no charge to use Whispernet 3G wireless outside the U.S. to receive books, receive single periodical issues, access archived items, browse the Kindle store, or use the experimental web browser."

Here's a demonstration of several Google products on the 3rd generation Amazon Kindle. Gmail is the most difficult one to use, and while I had success with it yesterday, I was unable to send a message today. I forgot to include Google Calendar on this, but that works as well, although I haven't tried to setup appointments. This is the 3G model, although I am logged onto WIFI for the Google Talk portion. Interestingly enough, my desk is too far for my laptop to get WIFI, but Kindle was able to reach. Normally WIFI is faster, but at that distance from the router, 3G was actually much faster than WIFI.

  • @PlushYou you cannot download from internet as far as I know, however you can download from your computer via USB cable. It has a rudimentary music player

  • can you use the browser for FREE anywhere in the world where there is 3G coverage?

  • @patriciae9 I haven't tried, so I don't know for sure. I'm sure you can find the answer with a google search. Amazon says this: "The experimental Web browser is currently only available for some customers outside of the United States."

  • i think the 3g n wifi changes depending on what is a stronger signal ...maybe (Lets make up a name for something that is probably not true) Smart Change! with smart change the 3g and wifi will change to keep you a strong signal so you will never experience a slow connection!!!! *now waits for this to spread*

  • @crimsure Pretty much! the funny thing is that the kindle had better luck than my laptop in getting wifi signals in that room
