Flame retardant chemicals are added to furniture, baby products and many other everyday items. These chemicals can persist in the environment and have been detected in the blood, breast milk and body tissues of Californians. Children often have the highest levels. These chemicals have been linked to reduced fertility, reproductive and thyroid effects and reduced IQ in children.
