The Micro Mosaic technique, also known as FILATI (that means 'thread' in Italian) is typically used to make Millefiori and jewels.
The process is quite easy: pieces of Smalti glass, in one or more colors, are heated and pulled out till getting long thin strands, similar to spaghetti. These are then broken into tiny pieces called TESSERAE, in innumerable gradation of colors and shapes.
The best works can achieve 3,000 tiles per square inch!!
