  • Beautiful, beautiful!

Was it a whole Alcina performance? The role of Ruggiero suits her SO well, it's virtuosity plus emotion, Vivica masters both.

Hm, from Ruggiero there's ONLY Sta nell'Ircana on CD (I'll never understand ... ). Did she sing it in Barcelona??

  • I dont know. I got it from the web. It says it was a concert anything else.

  • It is amazing, how many "professors of singing" dare to blame Vivica for "fake coloraturas", "wrong technique", "chin tremolo" etc.

Any person with only a minimum knowledge of singing technique can hear, that Vivica "produces" her coloratura properly. Her cascades of coloratura are NOT coming from her chin but from her diaphragm!!!! In a word: Her technique is brilliant!

The "mouth-thing" of Vivica is strange indeed. But since she cannot stop it, let us try to love and enjoy Vivica with it! :-))

  • Who cares how she moves her mouth? The sound is beautiful, and I happen to pay more attention to the music than to jawlines and teeth.

  • Simply Magical....if we watch we see her shaping ...."sound shaping" each note, note by note....it is easy to understand if you play a bowed instrument...viola, violin...etc...

If we need more "lip flapping" to get tone and expression this good....show me those with so called "correct technique" who are even close: Bartoli has a nasty stacotti tone, Sumi Jo, not close, only Veronica Cangemi is close, and she has her good share of mouth movement....Traditional Voice people rethink yourselves....

  • primo: non è assolutamente un mezzosoprano!!!!! secondo : è inguardabile!!! quale scopo hanno tutti quei movimenti della bocca??

  • @eukleides2 absolutely right!

  • @ArnesonZach I think it works while she is still young, but I hear in her voice bad technique that can last only few years, unfortunately.

  • Eukleides2... you are so right...

  • creo que le falta resistencia física, esta muy delgada!!

  • No, you're not understanding. Yes, I know they look funny, but they produce the sounds in a correct way. She doesn't. I watched a few of her rehearsal videos and it gets even worse in some of the other arias she sang. She uses her lip flapping (not to sound mean, I have no better word) to produce sounds that other singers can produce using a proper technique.

She is a brilliant singer, nonetheless, just not the most technically impressive I've seen, giving those obvious faults. :)

  • que bello

  • I do understand your point, but if something works, how is it the "wrong" technique? Maybe our idea of technique could be changed. People singing really complex coloratura usually look funny anyway :)
