@rock3tcat - I understand that .. But the thought also was how do they convert 12v DC to 110-v AC with Inverter Technology (now tiny boxes compared to the old units) and could it be used in this application?.. Say not so much as a drive unit.. but as an assist in re-charging it.. that way it went that extra 10 miles or so..
The total energy balance wont change, the energy that you put into moving the car will be absorbed by the drag of the electric generators. You're in fact putting power into the rear wheels, which at the same time gets "absorbed" by the electric generators/motors in the front wheels.
You can never get more energy out of something than you put in yourself... :D
@rock3tcat - :^) - Hey WTF right? if the Rear Wheel is the only one driven why not put a Generator on each front tire on say a half-shaft mounting them in-board??
Good idea but it would make the car harder to get going, better idea, modify the body with fiber glass with two inlets on each side in the rear and have a wind power generator on each side that you cannot see. Keeps it sexy and does the same as your idea but without any more strain on the engine.
