Patty Young, licensed textile designer and owner of MODKID LLC, demonstrates how do perform a zig zag stitch with knit fabrics on a sewing machine. Good information for sewists who are new to sewing with knits. For more info, check out Patty's blog at http://www.modkidboutique.blogspot.com and her website at http://www.modkidboutique.com. @ilvmakindolls I have not done a picot edge before but we are always learning and researching new techniques at the studio, so I will put this on my list for future videos. Thanks for the comment!

I would love to know how to sew a picot edge on knit fabrics. A person I know makes a beautiful picot edge on her knit fabrics that makes it a decorative hem. I am at a loss to how she does it and would love to learn. Do you know how to do this?

@photobeck skipped stitches can be attributed to anything from incorrect needles to dull/broken tip needles to machine tension problems. If you're sewing knits, I would recommend switching to a ballpoint needle. If that does not solve the problem, then take a look at your machine tension (loosen it or tighten it to see if it resolves). Finally, try changing the thread type. I recommend using a polyester thread for sewing with knits because it has more give than the all cotton ones.

Will NOT using a ball-point needle cause the stitches to skip? We're trying to do a zig-zag hem on a knit using a regular needle but we're finding that it's skipping stitches.
