This is one "purring" video. =p

This video is a favorite on Slovenia

I see no signs of kilt making though!

I'm sorry. I didn't appreciate the difference! Thank you for putting me straight, and let this serve as a lesson to men like me, who think they know what we're talking about! We should stick to engines & the like...
God bless you! Slaite.

@DonegalRaymie201 I'm pretty sure she said this was a spinning song, waulking songs began slow because the cloth was wet and it was slow work, it sped up only later.
-
Aren't these actually "waulking" songs? Songs the women used to sing while they were working/ waulking the cloth in the Western isles, makin' the tweed?
I'm sure I've seen old footage of them here on Ytube!

As a spinner, I like the "working" rhythm of this song. Of course, the singer's voice, so pure and lovely, is the real gem here.

Julie, with Donal Lunny and Bruce Molsky, does a beautiful rendition of this song, as part of "Programme Four" on the Transatlantic Sessions 3 dvd. (Much more greatness besides.)
With the much better dvd audio fidelity, you can really appreciate the quality.
Not knocking flash audio, but Julie really deserves the best.

The chorus is repeated after each line. It doesn't mean anything. Here is the translation of the verse: Oh noble youth who has left me You have kept me behind all the others Unknown to my father or mother Unknown to sister or brother Oh woman at the spinning wheel You know how my heart is A young Campbell in your possession I will not get a baptism in Uist Until I reach the yellow-haired man You have kept me behind all the others

A bhean ud thall aig a chuibhle
Fhios agad fhèin mar a tha mo chridhe
Caimbeulach òg oirre shiubhal
'S nach fhaigh mi baisteadh an Uibhist
Gu ruig mi fear a' chùil bhuidhe
Chum thu air deireadh air chàch mi
Hi Karen and Mairikeir
thanks ever so much for pointing me into the right direction. Got the album now, and to have text and translation now on the PC via the web is great - am trying to learn this song to do it whilst spinning! Not being a singer (and I mean it :-0 !) - an impossible task !
